B707snd98.zip

FS98 Sound Package - For Boeing 707/720, and McDonnell Douglas DC-8-60 Series aircraft.

A complete collection of sound files for older turbojets such as the Boeing 707, Boeing 720, McDonnell Douglas DC-8-60 Series, and the military versions of the Boeing 707 (KC135, E-3, and E-6).

B707snd98.zip Highlights

1: Reverser sounds include a realistic sound clip with the addition of "rattle" and "shuddering" sounds. Also, the engines spool-down after thrust reverse, creating a nice effect.

2: Realistic wind sounds which increase in pitch and volume in relation to speed. It seems many flightsimers do not like wind sound, so a "sound2.cfg" file was added to eliminate the wind sound completely. The fact is though, most of the sound heard in an airliner at cruising speeds is wind noise.

3: Upon landing (or if you run off the end of the runway!), you'll hear the aircraft make some very realistic "shuddering" sounds. I never did care much for the "tire-screech" sounds which you cannot hear inside a passenger jet anyway.

4: I'm not satisfied with the delay in the flap sounds when the flaps are extended or retracted (such as hitting the F5 or F8 key) and I've tried several combinations of sounds to correct this. The flaps sound will sound realistic if you extend the flaps with the the F6 or F7 keys and avoid the F5 and F8 keys.

5: Realistic high-pitch engine "whine" that increases in pitch and volume in relation to N1 speed. The 707/DC8 aircraft fitted with PW JT3D and JT4D engines produced A LOT of engine whine.

Installation:

1: Backup the sound folder of the aircraft where you are going to install this file (you can name the original sound file something like "OrigSound"). This is done in case you decide you don't like this new file and want the original one back.

2: Unzip this file to a "Temp" folder. The sound files are contained in their own folder.

3: Simply move this new sound folder from the "Temp" folder to the aircraft folder.

4: Under your "Aircraft" file, you should now see the following folders:

model
Origsound
panel
sound
texture

5: If you don't want the wind noise, do the following:
A: Open the aircraft's "sound" folder
B: Rename "sound.cfg" to "sound.1cfg"
C: Rename "sound.2cfg" to "sound.cfg"

6: You're ready for takeoff - enjoy!

Notes:

I am certainly old enough to remember when the 707's and DC-8's were about the only passenger jets available. There are no "vacuum cleaner" sounding files included here! The 707 and DC-8 sounded more like a screaming rocket on take-off than an aircraft. These files accurately simulate all the noise made by these early turbojet aircraft.

A special thanks to Ali Mujtaba for his touchdown sounds.

NONE OF THE .WAV FILES ARE MY OWN! THE .WAV FILES CONTAINED WERE OBTAINED FROM OTHER FREEWARE FILES. I'M NOT SURE WHO CREATED THE SOUND FILES CONTAINED IN THIS ARCHIVE, BUT THANKS TO WHOEVER DID!

Other Sound Files I've uploaded to SurClaro:
1: B738snd98v2.zip: Boeing 737-300 through 900 Series sound files.
